Two Victories to Start 2009 02.09.2009
The 2009 season has barely broken out of the starting gate, and the Inland Construction Cycling Team already has two victories.
Inland Construction pro Lucas Livermon tested his early season form at the “6 Hours on the Lake” mountain bike endurance race at Harris Lake this past weekend. The race start was accompanied by perfect weather and good trail conditions. The race was the third and final in the TORC Endurance Series, and Lucas had already won the first race in the series giving him a shot at a series victory. Like he did in that first race, Lucas went straight for the lead and settled into a pace that could be sustained for the duration of the race. After just a few minutes he was on his own and his mind was set to keep it that way. A couple of laps in he was forced to stop to make some minor adjustments to the bike and was caught for a brief time by Inland rider Steve Sherman. The two teammates rode together for a bit before Lucas got back into his tempo and was alone at the front once again. After 6 hours of racing and over 50 miles of single track Lucas rode to the line, race victory in hand, and was also able to take the series win. Steve Sherman rode in to finish second on the day after recovering from a flat tire for an Inland one-two finish.
Inland Construction’s Cat. 4 pavement squad was in action at the Orange County Speedway race on January 31. Matt Rothwell, Brian Sain, and Greg Robitaille braved the frigid temperatures and warmed up by covering early moves. After a mid-race lull, the team traded attacks at the front. This strung the field out and when the rubber band snapped Brian found himself off of the front of the race in a group of five riders. With the break away for good, Greg attacked at the bell. Brian won the sprint for the victory, and Greg picked up a solid eighth-place finish.
The Inland Construction Cycling Team has already proven they can get the job done on dirt and pavement, and they’ve set the tone for the 2009 season.
