Spartanburg Stump Jump AMBC

Inland Construction’s mountain bike team competed this past weekend at the Southeast’s favorite place to race, the Spartanburg Stump-Jump. This race is on the national AMBC schedule and usually draws all of the Southeast’s top riders. This year was similar to last year’s race, with a large lead group of 8 riders forming early on the first lap. Last year, Inland’s Charlie Storm won out of this group. This year was different. Both Storm and Charlie Pendry came out of contact with 7 riders at the end of the first of 3 laps. Storm and Pendry continued to ride hard and steady for the next 90 minutes, picking off all but the top two riders as they got dropped from the lead group. Storm salvaged 3rd and Pendry 4th.

In other notes, the nations only fully sponsored baby trailer rider, Bo Glenn, made his successful return to racing after a year of rehab on a herniated disc in his back, finishing 6th in the master’s sport field.

NORBA National Series and Raleigh Road Stuff

Inland Constructions Charlie Storm was 11th in the second NORBA marathon race of 2006 in Fontana CA. Charlie Pendry and Daniel Corum had disappointing placing in the cross-country event, but Pendry salvaged the weekend with a 30th in the short track event.

In the hometown area Cape Fear Road Race on Saturday, Inlands master’s road racers had more satisfying results. In the masters 1/2/3 that featured almost 1000 feet of climbing per lap over 66.8 miles, semi-pro mountain biker Rob Moran was virtually unmatched in the climbs on his Shimano/Team Issue Fuji and DT Swiss wheels as he aggressively covered most of the race from the front. This allowed Kevin Gordan and Jason McCarter to ride protected and Gordan to go with the attack in the last 16 miles for 5th. Moran rode off the front of the field on the second to last climb for 10th.

In the Downtown Raleigh Crit on Saturday, in the pouring rain, master’s rider Steve Sherman placed 5th and Kevin Gordan 9th.
