Regional Road Ambush by Inland Construction – BTD 06.01.2005
The Wake Habitat Omnium began on Friday evening in downtown Raleigh, NC with the $15,000 women and men’s pro criteriums. Susan Wilson and pro mountain biker, Laura Bowles road strong for the Inland-BTD women in the 30-mile event. Bowles made several breaks that were brought back, to eventually place 26th in the field sprint.
Steven Wright, John Degele, Charlie Pendry, and Charlie Storm lined up to represent hometown and title team sponsor, INLAND CONSTRUCTION, in front of several thousand fans lining the fast, 8-corner course. The technical, 50-mile criterium suited Inland-BTD’s Storm well. Local favorite, Storm laid patient in the field for 100 minutes until unleashing a solo attack with 6 circuits remaining. Three laps later, one rider from the Endeavor team and one from Aerospace Engineering joined Storm. Cheered on by the hometown fans, Storm drove the break hard for the final 3 laps and placed 3rd after being out-powered by the professional Roadies in the final sprint.
Said Storm, “With all of the financial support for our professional Inland Construction-BTD Mountain, Road and Cross team located in the Raleigh area, it was nice to do well here in front of a lot of excited fansâ€Â. Storm couldn’t stop raving about the performance of his Shimano-Fuji Team Pro with custom built, Frank’s Cyclery–DT Swiss Carbon Cross wheels.
