Masters 35+
In the masters 35+ race, BTD’s Jimmy Bruner rode an impressive race, finishing third in a strong field. Andy Applegate, last year’s national masters runner up in Portland, won the race. Following Bruner were BTD’s Pat Raines and Rob Moran, who took 4th and 5th and helped to put Bruner in a near dead heat with Sandhills Cycling’s Marcus Jones in their battle for 2nd overall in the NC Series. One Double points race remains.

Men’s A

In their last appearance in NC this year, BTD’s Charlie Storm and Fiorda Fruita’s John Hamblen continued their weekly battle and gave local cross fans a race to remember. Storm and Hamblen left the rest of the field early and rode the entire 60 minutes with neither rider getting a decisive gap. In the end, it was BTD’s Storm taking the win in a final uphill sprint to the finish.

BTD’s Taylor Jones remained consistent as always, finishing 10th. Jones now sits in 7th, the last money spot, with one race remaining in the series.

At least we got a good shot of the jersey. I was at the tail end of the lead group when I took this spill at the end of the first lap in Saturday’s Crank Brother’s Series UCI race. Suffered all day for a 4-season worst 30th place.

Rode a little better in the series finals on Sunday. Was up to 13th place at the half way point when another spill put me chasing again. Fought back to a somewhat respectable 18th on Sunday.

I still have hopes that a solid race in 3 weeks at Elite Nationals will get me a career best top 10 finish. I will be starting on the first row in the Mastrs 35+ race at Nationals which will leave no excuses this year.

Back to dirt was co-organizer this past weekend of the Burlington/NC Cyclocross series race. Helping with course set up, marshalling and course take down on Saturday and Sunday were: Ray Brooks, Taylor Jones, Jason Scislowicz, Bo Glenn, Jimmy Bruner, Pat Raines, Charlie Storm, And Charlie Pendry. Frank Jones officiated.

The Masters 35+ race saw jimmy Bruner solidify his second place series standing with a hard third place finish. Seasoned road veteran Pat Raines made his debut on a cross bike. On his second off road venture in as many days, the Rainman spent the race learning the dirt techniques while working his way through the field to capture a 5th place that helped extend Jimmy Bruner’s points dual with the cross veterans from Sandhills Cycling.

BTD racer and Homepress.com Webmaster Chuck Meeks put on a solid performance on his new cross bike in the Masters 45+ race.

Masters athlete, Bo Glenn, opted for the B race today and showed glimmers of the post-sabbatical Bo Glenn of 2002. BTD’s Ray Brooks also continued his consistent ways in the B race.

In the A race, the Charlie Storm – John Hamblin battle continued with a hard fought 25 second win by Fiorda Fruita’s tough John Hamblin. The second place effort by BTD’s Storm further solidified his hold at the top of the NC Series standings. Back To Dirt’s Taylor Jones turned in his best NC performance of the season with a ninth place in the A race.
