5/21 Big Bear XC Time Trial
BTD Racing’s Dan Doub of Cary, NC, beginning his first full season as a NORBA Pro, had a good start to his season on Friday at Snow Summit Ski Resort in Big Bear, CA. Doub finished 28th in the pro field. BTD’s Charlie Pendry, fresh off of his good finish at Sonoma the previous week, got some food poisoning from the local SoCal cuisine. He managed a 60th in the TT, but got his pretty face and the new BTD uniform in Cycling News.

5/22 Big Bear XC
Indicative of his fitness level, Charlie Pendry got a good start in the 29 mile Pro Cross Country race. He was quickly up to 29th place near the end of the 1st lap. However, he did have to abandon, falling victim to the previous days sickness. Dan Doub, quickly learning the high intensity of the Pro XC races, came through the first lap in 37th., lap two in 27th, and finished his first real Pro race 24th. A very good start to the year. Both Pendry and Dan will have pretty good starting spots when the series comes to our home turf in 2 weeks at Snowshoe, WV.
5/23 Big Bear STXC
Dan was initiated to the Short Track XC event. I’ll tell you what STXC feels like: Do the first 90 seconds of a mountain bike race or cyclocross race or run a 200M hill repeat and take no rest. Repeat this for 25 minutes.
Dan finished up 25th in the short track. Pendry 50th. Dan was 23rd overall for the weekend, which was run in a stage race format.
5/22 Assault on Mt Mitchell, 104 miles
SCS coached rider, David Pressley, finished the grueling ascent on Mt Mitchell in 8:01:13
5/23 Devils Ridge Cane Creek Race, Sanford, NC
Along with Charlie Storm’s impressive marathon win at NORBA #3 in Big Bear California, BTD Racing was keeping the podium full at Race #5 of the Cane Creek Cup. Larger than normal fields and high temperatures kept the racing hard. Kevin Hall kept the wins going by winning the Pro/Exp race. After a broken foot in March, Rob Moran found some old fitness and single track skills to place 3rd in the Master’s Expert 30+. Jimmy Brunner placed 2nd in Master’s Expert 40+, barely missing his first win of the season.
