BTD Racing Opens Season

BTD Racing began the 2004 season right where it had left off at the end of the 2003 Cross campaign. Fuji southeast/BTD Racing athletes, Charlie Pendry, Charlie Storm, and Daniel Doub, dominated the 2003 Southeastern cross scene, winning all but one North Carolina Cyclocross Series event. Charlie Storm and Daniel Doub then went on to Elite Cross Nationals to place 14 th and 30 th in the men’s Elite race.

Two rest weeks and 10 weeks of training later, BTD Racing was back to work at an early NORBA National March 11-14 in Waco, TX. The weekend began with the writing of a new chapter in the history of Southeastern Cycling. Southeastern seasoned pro, Charlie Storm, won the first ever NORBA Marathon Cross Country race. Storm won the 54-mile event in 3:58:00, ten minutes ahead of second place.

The remainder of the weekend involved Storm and Charlie Pendry Competing in the three event Mountain Bike Stage race. Charlie Pendry, a focused racer, who knows how to peak for the more critical climbing races later this summer, came to Waco to test his early season strength and endurance fitness and defend his cross country starting position for the summer events. Pendry shook out the winter legs to place 41 st in the stage one TT and 39 th in the stage two short track among the 85 rider men’s pro field.

On Sunday, Charlie Pendry rode a controlled effort to place 40 th in the Cross-country race. BTD Racing expects big results out of Pendry when the NORBA circuit hits the mountains this summer. Charlie Storm, still a little sluggish from the Marathon event, finished 47 th in the cross-country race. BTD’s Dan Doub was home this weekend saving his vacation time for the last 6 NMBS races.
